Visa and Residency Requirements

Passport and Visa

  • Passport: Required for non-EU students; EU students need only an ID.
  • Visa: Most non-EU students require a student visa. Apply through the French consulate in your home country with the following:
    • Completed application form
    • Valid passport
    • Passport-quality photo
    • Financial guarantee (proof of resources)
    • Medical and travel insurance
    • Proof of accommodation in France

VLS-TS Visa Validation: Non-EU students staying from 91 days to 12 months must validate their VLS-TS visa within three months of arrival. Visit the official site here for details.

Resident Permit (for stays over one year)

For non-EU students staying over one year, a Carte de Séjour (resident permit) is required. Bring a certified French-translated birth certificate and proof of financial means for the application. Renewal can now be done online via ANEF.

Health Insurance

Student Health Insurance: Mandatory for non-EU students, except for those with an EHIC card (EU/EEA citizens). Students must register for health insurance each academic year, with optional supplementary coverage (mutuelle) available for added benefits.

Reminder: Non-EU students should bring a French-translated birth certificate.

CVEC (Student and Campus Life Contribution)

All students enrolled in French higher education (except exchange students) must pay the CVEC fee (€103 for AY2024-2025) to fund campus life programs. Register and pay on cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr.

Scholarships

For financial aid opportunities, consult the French consulate in your country or visit Campus France (www.campusfrance.org).

EU exchange students may also apply for Erasmus scholarships through their home universities.
