AI in the service of citizen safety

Created in collaboration with the Gendarmerie Nationale, the AI and Security Chair explores the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to meet contemporary security challenges. At a time when data and AI technologies are positioning themselves as a “third dimension” of security, alongside the protection of people and property, this Chair aims to place digital advances at the service of citizen protection.

Missions and Challenges

The AI and Security Chair aims to promote AI-enhanced security, thanks to an ongoing exchange between Isep’s expertise in data processing and AI, and the operational and technical skills of the Gendarmerie Nationale. This joint commitment translates into research, training and technological development initiatives to anticipate and counter current and future threats.

Chair activities

The initiatives of the AI and Security Chair revolve around several key areas:

  • Research and Innovation: Exploiting data processing and AI techniques to develop innovative security solutions.
  • Student projects and internships: Integration of Isep engineering students in projects and internships within the Gendarmerie Nationale, offering applied learning opportunities.
  • Training and recruitment: Design of specific training courses for Gendarmerie Nationale managers and integration of Isep graduates into teams, reinforcing the impact of AI skills on public safety.
  • Thesis supervision: Supporting doctoral students on research projects related to the Chair’s themes.
  • Awareness-raising and sharing: Organization of open seminars and webinars, to disseminate research results and raise public awareness of the ethical and technical challenges of AI applied to security.

Organization

The governance of the AI and Security Chair is based on a Steering Committee, jointly chaired by Aline Aubertin (General Director of Isep), Christophe Jacquot (Head of the Gendarmerie Nationale’s Transformation Department) and General Marc Boget (Commander of the Gendarmerie in Cyberspace).

A Steering Committee, including experts from Isep and the Gendarmerie Nationale, oversees the projects and guides research in line with national security needs and priorities.

Events and Meetings

AI and Security conferences

The Chair organizes regular conferences, such as the one in February 2023 entitled “Metavers – a new field of expression to protect”, exploring the challenges and opportunities that AI and digital technology bring to security. Other thematic sessions cover everything from digital crime scenes to protecting against disinformation.

These events aim to raise awareness among the public and security professionals of the latest advances, and to exchange best practices in digital security and AI.
